What Has Latin Done for Me Lately?

Hey Guys!
quick question
1) Pro Patria mori Dulce et Decorum est- does it mean "to die before the fatherland is sweet and beautiful"? if so, what case is Dulce in, and is Descorum in accusative?

Thanks a bunch!

Hey J

Your translation is correct; both dulce and decorum are neuters, dulce of the third declension, decorum of the second. They are both predicates to the infinitive 'mori' which is a form of infinitive we have not learned yet. It is the equivalent of 'to try is a good thing' 'it is prohibited to smoke' 'it is acceptable to complaint' etc. Infinitive phrases take neuter adjectives as their predicates, the understood noun behind the adjective being the noun 'thing'.

Sometimes there are spammers who post weird things on blogs. I used to have that problem with mine so often that I had to change the privacy setting so that instead of comments being automatically posted, the person leaving the comment has to type in an encoded series of letters. You might want to change the setting on this blog if more spammers leave weird messages.
